Dr. Alex Jerao grew up in Winnipeg with her family's cat and dog rescue, D'Arcy's A.R.C. (Animal Rescue Centre). She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba before attending the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in May 2017. She began her veterinary career at the Winnipeg Humane Society, where she practiced until January 2021. She created Companion Veterinary Corporation in Jan 2021 to expand her career as a locum veterinarian in the Winnipeg area. She has been an associate veterinarian for D'Arcy's A.R.C. since 2018 and is looking forward to providing for the shelter animals on a more regular basis.
Alex is passionate about animal welfare, Fear-Free experiences, and disease prevention. She is Fear-Free Certified. She has a continuing interest in epidemiology and public health and is starting graduate studies in public health through the University of Waterloo. In Dec 2020, Alex completed training with Shared Health Manitoba and is now working with the WRHA to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to people in Winnipeg.
Outside of work, Alex spends time with her husband, three dogs, two cats, and three guinea pigs. She enjoys hiking, yoga, and cycling, as well as tending to her large collection of houseplants.
